How to Keep Christ at the Center of Christmas
Another Christmas is upon us, and chances are you’re already buried under a mountain of wrapping paper and mile-long receipts. All too easily, we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the season and fail to honor the holiday the way we should.
That’s why Pastor Chris and our staff at Elevate Community Church want to share some simple ways you can make and keep Christ at the center of your Christmas.
Make service a priority
Throughout the year, and especially during Christmas, we get wrapped up in what we want. And when you consider the pure volume of stuff we can buy these days, it’s hard not to feel overwhelmed with consumerism and self-centeredness.
You can resist getting stuck in a rut of “me, me, me” by making service to others a top priority this Christmas season. Find a way you can help your church fill a need, give the gift of service to a loved one, volunteer in your community, or simply look for a way to commit a random act of kindness. Any way you can shift the focus outward in service to others will glorify Jesus as you prepare to celebrate His birth.
Don’t neglect the daily reminders
Setting up a nativity scene in a prominent place in your house, singing traditional Christmas carols, and doing daily devotionals are great ways to remind you of the real reason for the season. It may seem like common sense, but when it comes to keeping Christ at the center of Christmas, no detail should be overlooked.
Read the real Christmas story
The real story of Christmas has nothing to do with elves or the North Pole — it’s found in the book of Luke. We encourage you to dive into Luke 1:1-56 and Luke 2: 1-20 this Christmas season.

Share your faith
Christmas is a unique time of year. Many who don’t regularly attend church feel the pull to refocus on their faith and attend a service. Recognizing this need in those around you and taking the bold step to invite them to church is a great way to honor the true spirit of the holiday.
